July 2026: PMI Unveils Limited-Edition IQOS ILUMA i REMIX Device
Philip Morris International (PMI) has introduced the IQOS ILUMA i REMIX Limited Edition, a special global release of its latest heated tobacco device that combines the technology of the IQOS ILUMA i platform with a distinctive seasonal design. The limited-edition device is being launched across IQOS markets worldwide, with availability varying by country.
The REMIX edition is inspired by the colors and energy of summer, featuring an iridescent finish that shifts between shades of blue, green and gold depending on the light. PMI describes the design as capturing the “rhythm of the season,” while retaining the full functionality of the IQOS ILUMA i range, including its SMARTCORE induction heating technology and advanced user features.
The launch aligns with PMI’s strategy of introducing limited-edition IQOS devices to complement its standard portfolio and reinforce the brand’s premium positioning. Alongside the devices, the company is also offering matching REMIX accessories in selected markets.
About IQOS ILUMA
IQOS ILUMA is the flagship (latest & greatest) IQOS model, first launched in Japan, the world’s largest heated tobacco market, on August 17, 2021. IQOS owner, Philip Morris International (PMI) introduced induction-heating technology (called Smartcore Induction System), which utilizes no heating blade and requires no cleaning, as the breakthrough innovation in IQOS ILUMA devices that will accelerate the transformation to smoke-free products. Induction heating technology (i.e. method of raising the temperature of an electrically conductive material by subjecting it to an alternating electromagnetic field) has been in use for British American Tobacco (BAT)’s glo device since September 2019. In terms of moving from conduction to induction heating, PMI made it later but better than BAT.
The newly designed TEREA heatsticks are to be used only with IQOS ILUMA devices, which feature an auto-start function that detects when the TEREA stick is inserted and automatically turns on the device. Blade-less IQOS ILUMA devices offer a cleaner way to heat tobacco from the core, without burning it, to provide a more consistent experience, no tobacco residue, and no need to clean the device. According to PMI’s own market research (conducted in Japan and Italy with 714 IQOS users), IQOS ILUMA provides a more pleasurable experience compared to previous IQOS models (IQOS 3).
As TEREA sticks contain a sharp metal part (i.e. a non-visible, current-inducing metal pin that is electrically isolated from the device) that can cause serious injury if swallowed, they must be kept out of reach of children and pets, and must not be ingested or disassembled.
The IQOS ILUMA series offers three devices: IQOS ILUMA PRIME, IQOS ILUMA and IQOS ILUMA ONE. All devices use induction-heating technology but offer different designs to allow users to select the device that best suits their needs and preferences.
IQOS ILUMA PRIME and IQOS ILUMA are two-piece models: Holder and Pocket Charger. Holder is the piece heating the tobacco stick to produce aerosol. Pocket Charger allows the user to charge the Holder on the go.
IQOS ILUMA PRIME is available in a new design that uses elegant, anodized aluminum combined with a texture wrap. The device is available in four colors and is customizable both in terms of connected features via the user’s smartphone and offline with a wide range of accessories, including charger wraps and holder rings.
IQOS ILUMA is similar to the previous IQOS models (IQOS 3) in terms of design but provides an enhanced tobacco experience with improved draw and stick-by-stick taste consistency – available in five colors with further accessory options, such as holder rings and interchangeable doors.
Both devices offer adult users the ability to have two consecutive uses without recharging the holder and include advanced features that can be enabled or disabled – by the IQOS app – such as smart gestures, auto-start, various illumination modes, alerts, and the ability for the user to lock and unlock their device when needed. The charging time is 2 hours 15 minutes and a full charge provides 20 uses.
IQOS ILUMA ONE is an one-piece model similar BAT’s glo and Japan Tobacco’s Ploom X. This all-in-one device delivers 20 consecutive uses per charge.
In terms of reference price at the global level, IQOS ILUMA PRIME is recommended to retail at US$120, IQOS ILUMA at US$80 and IQOS ILUMA ONE at US$60. However, the actual retail prices vary from one market to another. For instance, in the highly competitive Japanese market, IQOS ILUMA devices are sold at half the global reference price. Moreover, in the mid-to-low income markets, IQOS ILUMA is retailed at 30%-40% lower than than the reference.
