PMTA: Premarket Tobacco Product Application
The FDA has authorized four new pod-based e-cigarette products from Glas Inc., marking the first time the agency has cleared non-tobacco, non-menthol flavors under the PMTA pathway. To mitigate youth appeal, the pods use abstract branding and are compatible only with an age-gated device that requires Bluetooth smartphone pairing, government ID verification, and biometric check-ins. This historic policy shift follows reports of political pressure to expand flavored options for adult smokers.
